Aug. 30, 2017 (EIRNS)–One of the most stunning examples of the sabotage of nuclear energy for developing countries, was the overthrow of Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos, after which the operation of the completed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant was cancelled, in 1986. There have been discussions regarding the feasibility of bringing the plant on line, and now Russian nuclear experts are in the Philippines to study the viability of doing it. They are joined by the Philippines Nuclear Research Insitute and National Power Corporation, in addition to the DOE.
The Department of Energy said today that the assessment will be completed within two months, and that Rosatom is doing it for free. Nuclear experts from Slovenia are also involved in the evaluation.
